This new "11x14" portrait "Frosty Paws" is a mix of watercolor, casein and acrylic on paper. Zena's faded coat and silver whiskers and happy face made this portrait a joy to paint.
This mixed-media portrait was painted for my friend Joe Maringo who tirelessly rescues injured, unwanted and homeless dogs. Zena is just one of the rescues that has a special place in Joe’s heart. Last year, Joe took her in, blind and deaf, after being discovered chained and neglected by her owners for 17 years. Joe welcomed Zena into his home and gave her comfort, love, a warm place to rest and most importantly her dignity for the 10 short months she was with Joe. She crossed the bridge in late 2009.
Joe writes in his tribute to her…”She was always a joy to be near and greeted everyone with a heartfelt ROO-ROO! She may have been blind and deaf, but she still had an amazing nose that could tell her within seconds if we had visitors, or a fresh bowl of food was set out for her. She was an amazing soul and I will miss her dearly.”
Thanks Joe for all the amazing work you do for the dogs that come into your care! You are one-of-a-kind and so are the dogs you work so hard to rescue.
